1 or 2 week block placements
The majority of the work placements organised by EBP West Berks are for 14-18 year old students from West Berkshire schools and college who take up a one week or two week placement with a local employer. This could involve anything from working in the IT department of a large organisation or helping to design a mailshot in a sales department to working in a pre-school or stripping paint in a workshop. The possibilities are endless!
For these students, the main aims of work experience are understanding the world of work, developing personal and social skills and generally improving their level of employability. While for those students following vocational qualifications, the placements are more focused to specifically achieve course outcomes.
The work experience team at EBP West Berks provide comprehensive support to both the student and the employer both before and during any placement to ensure that maximum benefit is drawn from the experience.
The most successful placements are those that are well structured and where thought has gone into matching the student's needs as closely as possible to what the host employer can provide in terms of activity.
The support given by EBP West Berks therefore includes identifying suitable tasks for the student to undertake when on the placement and setting up pre-placement interviews as well as carrying out the necessary check and providing guidance on health and safety, insurance and risk assessments.
The one or two week block placements take place at set times in the academic year. Please see attached schedule for future dates.
