Advisors

Business Advisors have a key role to play in supporting each challenge.

The input given by volunteer Business Advisors is one of the main elements that students value since this is the type of interaction that does not happen during the normal school timetable.

Supported by teaching staff, Business Advisors circulate the students' groups offering support, advice and the benefit of their business knowledge to help the students meet the aim of their business challenge.

Business Advisors are fully briefed ahead of the event on the challenge and their role and responsibilities. The time commitment can be anything from a morning or afternoon on an ad hoc basis to a more ongoing weekly or monthly basis.

Business Advisors feedback from previous events:

  • Very worthwhile from my viewpoint. I support anything that helps develop business knowledge in this age group (Newbury Building Society)
  • Very good, lots of enthusiasm shown and the pupils really got stuck into the task (PepsiCo)
  • It was a positive experience, thank you (UPS Systems plc)

Employers are increasingly using volunteering opportunities such as this to develop professional skills within their own business. For example, learning how to give constructive feedback and provide encouragement to a group of students can only strengthen that person's ability to interact more effectively with members of his or her own team back in the office. It is a great way to develop interpersonal and communication skills.
