6th Form Maths Challenge
Date issued: 12/03/10
A-level students from across the South East of England were recently given the opportunity of working with two local businesses, Vodafone and Thatcham. Each company set the students a tough challenge based on decision mathematics and mechanical mathematics. Teams from the participating schools competed against each other to complete their chosen challenge and at the end of the day presented their findings to a panel of judges. The winning team was from Kennet School in Thatcham.
The event was organised by the Education Business Partnership West Berkshire and the Berkshire Further Mathematics Centre and kindly hosted by Bearwood College.
Christine Siddall from Coutts Banking said “I liked the idea of having local businesses setting the real life mathematics challenges. The students can understand how mathematics is used in the business world. It was very good for the students to present to a panel of judge/.You could see how well the students worked as a team”
