| PLANNING A WORK PLACEMENT WITH YOUR LOCAL EBP (EDUCATION BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP) | ||||||||||||||
| EBP and school staff will make initial contact and meet to plan the placement. Timescales need to be decided with as much notice as possible for the EBP and factors need to be taken into account such as not clashing with other courses the EBP arranges placements for; fitting in with other school activities etc.
Placements for the module will usually be one or two days in length and students may go out individually or in small groups.
Students may know of suitable care professionals to be contacted. Any such leads are subject to the same health & safety/insurance checks as placements found by the EBP. Relevant parts of the module/unit need to be talked through by school staff with the EBP so that EBP staff understand exactly what kind of placements they are required to find. Worksheets must also be discussed and copies of these and the unit given to the EBP member of staff. Application forms will be left by the EBP for the students to complete. Some placements (e.g. hospitals) may require additional forms to be completed once the students are placed with them. |
||||||||||||||
| PREPARING THE EMPLOYER | ||||||||||||||
| The care professional should be an adult working directly with clients in one of the care services.
The EBP will contact employers both identified by students and via their own database or (with enough notice) will target mailshot specific organisations. The EBP or school will have a thorough discussion with the employer of the students' objectives, and a copy of the worksheets and relevant unit should be given to the employer. Learning frameworks may also be of use to the employer/student and could be discussed. At this stage the employer should be clear on what the students will have to achieve whilst on placement. The EBP will arrange for the necessary health & safety check and will discuss a risk assessment with the employer. |
||||||||||||||
| STUDENT CONTACT | ||||||||||||||
| The student should contact the employer by letter or phone.
The student must explain the following:
The information gathered will need to include:
|
||||||||||||||
| CONFIRMING THE PLACEMENT | ||||||||||||||
| A letter will be sent by the EBP or school to the employer confirming all details.
The EBP will provide the student with paperwork confirming details of their placement. A copy of the risk assessment for parents will be provided either by the employer or by the EBP on their behalf. The school should prepare the students prior to the placement in the following areas - the EBP may be able to help with this if required:
Before commencing the placement the student's parents/guardians must complete a consent form; without this the placement cannot go ahead. |
||||||||||||||
| DURING THE PLACEMENT | ||||||||||||||
| As the placement is for only one/two day(s) a visit by the school tutor will not be possible but telephone contact could be made to ensure the placement is going smoothly.
The employer should have contact details for the EBP and the tutor in case any problems arise. Any accident that the student may have whilst on placement must be reported to the EBP and/or the school. The students must complete their worksheets/diary. Request a signed witness statement to validate evidence of research. |
||||||||||||||
| AFTER THE PLACEMENT | ||||||||||||||
| Evaluations must be completed by the students and providers/employers so the EBP and school can judge the success/effectiveness of the placement, and how the system could be improved.
The EBP staff member should meet with the tutor and/or students to talk through the placements and experiences. Students should write a thank you letter to employers. |
