The following material looks at the key issue of life events and life changes and could be used as a starting point for the teaching of this unit or at the end of the teaching to demonstrate all the other key issues.

Unit 3 does not lend itself as easily to employer links. However we have included it for completeness.

At the end of this section is a comprehensive list of useful points of reference. Amongst these organisations are many possible volunteers for speakers to enhance the students' understanding of the issues in Unit 3.

The material consists of:
An adapted version of `The Holmes and Rahe Scale (1967) of Life Events' in order of how stressful respondents found them

A list of life events as a `muddled up' version of the Holmes and Rahe scale

A list of suggested activities that students could do using this scale to learn about life events and their effects on personal development

A list of organisations involved in support people

Some case studies of individuals experiencing life events

Some suggested activities for using the list of organisations and case studies for students to apply their learning

The material could be adapted and used to support the other `KEY ISSUES' in this unit.

It is not intended that all the activities should be used or that there is any order in which the activities should be used, but that activities should be selected and adapted according to the needs and abilities of the learners involved.
